What is the Carolinas MicroOptics Triangle?
The Carolinas MicroOptics Triangle is a partnership between Clemson University, The University of North Carolina at Charlotte and Western Carolina University with a collective vision to be a full service research, educational and business development resource to the optics industry. CMOT was formed in 2002 to formally synergize the technology platforms of the partner institutions for technology advancement, local education support, support to local companies, and economic development for the region. Optical technologies from CMOT provide critical support to the following core industries of the region: Advanced Manufacturing, Automotive, Defense / Homeland Security, Life Sciences and Telecommunications.

Vision: The Carolinas MicroOptics Triangle will be recognized as a world class collaborative alliance that provides significant economic benefit for the Carolinas through innovation and education in optical technologies.

Mission: The Carolinas MicroOptics Triangle will provide leading edge optical technologies in support of the growth of key industries of the region. CMOT will operate in a business friendly structure such that innovation and technology developed are effectively transferred for economic benefit.
